Vineyard to vineyard: wine tasting among the wine routes

DAY 1

CIVIDALE AND THE COLLI ORIENTALI DEL FRIULI (EASTERN HILLS OF FRIULI)

Arrival at the hotel a very beautiful location with wine cellar e restaurant gourmet and departure to Cividale, in the heart of the Colli Orientali del Friuli. Guided tour of Cividale, founded by Giulio Cesare under the name of Forum Iulii, in 568 BC, this little village became the seat of the first Lombard duchy in Italy and then the residence of the patriarchs of Aquileia for several centuries. Today, Cividale still holds significant clues about the history of the Longobard period, such as the Tempietto (Little Temple), one of the mostthe extraordinary and mysterious pieces of architecture of the western early Medieval period. This historic and artistic place was recognised by UNESCO in 2011. After a shot walking departure for a renowned winery in the Collio area, tasting the famous Picolit and other fine white wines. The Friulian wine is an excellence of the territory and is the result of a tradition that goes back to the time of the Roman Empire. Fine wines and 8 D.O.C. awarded zones, rich in both native and European vines: robust and intense reds and fruity and scented whites, worldwide recognized and rewarded. Dinner at the hotel. Overnight.

DAY 2

COLLIO FRIULANO AND GORIZIA

After breakfast departure for Gorizia for a guided tour of the suspended atmosphere typical of this border city: in the Piazza Transalpina, which until 2004 was physically divided by a wall, you will walk with one foot in Italy and one foot in Slovenia. Thanks to its special geographical location, it has always been culturally influenced by a combination of different civilizations: Latin, Slavic and Germanic. Wine tasting and lunch in an ancient castle from the 1200’s surrounded by vineyards, wineries and the Friulian hills. You will taste typical wines of the area like the white Tocai Friulano, dry, fresh and aromatic. In the afternoon a walk to Cormons, the centre of the Collio Friuliano and visit other two cellars with the possibility to taste same of the 8 D.O.C. Friulian wines. Dinner in a typical restaurant. Overnight.

DAY 3

CARSO AND TRIESTE

After breakfast departure for the Carso Triestino, where you will visit a tavern embedded in the karst rocks and will taste typical wines like Malvasia, Terrano and Vitovska.  Typical lunch in Trieste and meeting with the local tour guide for a walking tour through the history of the most Mitteleuropean and cosmopolitan city in Italy; you will be captured by the charm of its beauty and its Gulf. Dinner at the hotel and overnight.

DAY 4

CONEGLIANO, VALDOBBIADENE AND SACILE (PROSECCO ROUTE)

After breakfast departure with the tour guide for a whole day excursion in Conegliano and Valdobbiadene through one of the most important wine routes in Italy: the Prosecco D.O.C.G. Territory. After a tour around Conegliano and its Castle on the mount, we will proceed towards the green hills to visit a magnificent Venetian Villa that hosts one of the most wine cellars in the area. During the visit lunch in a typical “Osteria” with wine tasting. On the way back a stop in Sacile, the town called “Giardino Della Serenissima” (the Serenissima Garden) thanks to its Venice-like atmosphere and its harmony architecture. A lot of Venetian-style palaces built on the river bank and reflecting in the water. Dinner in a typical restaurant. Overnight.

DAY 5

PORDENONE, WINE AND GRAPPA TASTING

After a breakfast meeting with the tour guide for the excursion to Pordenone, with its characteristic archways (porticoes) along the central main street, once called Contrada Maggiore, today Corso Vittorio Emanuele II. The other main artery of the town is Corso Garibaldi, and it is worth a visit also the nearby Piazza della Motta. Besides the Dome and its bell tower, the Palazzo Municipale and Palazzo Ricchieri (wich is the seat of the Art Museum), walking through the historic town centre you will admire magnificent buildings, many of them decorated with frescoes. After the tour around Pordenone, departure for one of the most renowned wineries of the area; light lunch with wine tasting and tour of the winery. In the afternoon guided tour at Poli Distillery and at the Poli Grappa Museum where all the visitors are welcome and may see every activity phase, with no secrets. Visiting the distillation room, handcrafted distilled with the ancient steam system And carrying onto the cellars, where the Grappa rests in approximately 4000 barrels. At the end grappa tasting and return.
